Hi guys! this sat we will be meeting to discuss the following :

1) SIG Week (the week before Vesak day, week 7)
objective - increase publicity of our CCA

Video (anyone good in video making? volunteer? =] )
Hang drawings of the children at the booth (children would be given 30mins, 11.30-12 this sat to draw)
Raise funds ( sell handcraft made by children, any DIY ideas that is easy for the children? )

* we would be setting up a CCA fund, this is because we would need funds for upcoming events. eg: Games day

5) WORKSHOPS for the tutors (June Hols)

It would most probably be a one-day event, where we will engage professionals to coach us on how to teach the children.

Hey guys, as u all know, our SIG week is coming. We have to prepare for it! Its in may and it spans over 5 days, so we gotta think of creative ways to stay relevant for the 5 days! Everyone, pls brainstorm on the possible activities we can conduct, games, videos, etc, anything! Like for example, we could even start selling handmade souvenirs to raise funds so we can organise, lets say, a picnic for e kids..so, lets get working and we'll discuss this on sat!

Hey ppl we realli apologise to those who turned up on the 25 of october in the mist of your op preparations. We realli didnt kno that the last session was lyk two weeks ago. We had even intended on a games day on what we tot was the last session so that everyone could say farewell of some sort to their tutees. Hence do be reminded that it is the end of peer tutoring for this yr and with regards to next yr, we will inform u guys agn but do check the blog to see if there is any updates. Anw as we feel that all good things should have a proper closure, we are planning and going to have a last get together session. no studying on that day jus pure enjoyment for the tutees at least, haha. So we hope you all could make it. It is on the 8 OF NOVEMBER. SAME TIME! most likely we will meet at NYJC this time round as the session will be held there. However, more information will be comfirmed. Thank you all for the commiment you all had put in in the last one yr. The number of CIP hours u all had clocked in will be posted soon...hopefully so pls do check when the time comes!

3 things i need to talk about so please take note and do spread the msg!

1) Please pay up $18 to any of the exco for the peertutoring shirt ASAP BY THIS FRIDAY!
PLEASE DONT MAKE US CHASE YOU! Thankyou(:.

2) Peer Tutoring will be resumed only in the first week of Oct.
Means from this week onwards to end of sept there is no peer tutoring.
First week of Oct HAVE yea? pls do rmb and we'll kp you updated. Check blog regularly:D

3) Just to clarify. If you are absent with a valid reason, pls do tell us. 'Cos if that's e case then your attendence will still be marked and you will reach the 90% attendence requirement. The only difference is that your hours will be lesser(counting by those sessions you came) but at least CIP hours will still be allocated.

But, if you are absent without a valid reason or you do not inform us, then your attendence will be marked zero and you may not reach the 90% attendence requirement.
Therefore, please do tell us when you have reasons for not coming as we are unable to chase after each and everyone of you.
Please try to cooperate with us! Afterall this should be for the children not just for us(:.

Latest Update for Coming Sat (12/4)

Hi all!~ I am really sorry for the last minute changes.

Pls take note: Thursday meeting will be cancelled. We will be meeting on Sat(12/4) morning instead.:)
Date: 12/4/2008
Time: 9am ( for both J1 and J2)
Venue: NYJC outside LT4 ( Both J1 and J2)
Attire: NYJC shirts and bottom. (No slipper is allowed)

I will briefly tell u guys what will happen on sat.

- We will gather at NYJC first, the J2 excos will brief u guys on what is going on in this project.
-We already divide you guys into 5 groups, the J2 Ics will bring you guys to YangZheng pri after briefing.
- We will be using 3 classrooms @ YangZheng for our lessons.
- The group Ics will share with you guys their experience on tutoring the kids( as well as providing ur some tips, some kids tend to be hyperactive!~).
-We will end at 12pm, after tt we will have a short debrief.

Sorry we are unable to have Ice breaking games for you and the kids due to the lack of time.

Reminder! dun be late! The kids are super puntual, as big sisters and brothers dun make them wait ok? See you guys on Saturday!~

If you like to interact with young children or if you wish to provide your assistance to help primary school students academically, we welcome you to join this meaningful program!

What will you be doing?

You will tutor upper primary students on subjects like Mathematics, Science and English. As of Feb 08, you will help to mark their assessment books and clarify their doubts

Where is it?

Yang Zheng Primary School (5-7minutes walk from NYJC)

When is it?

Every Saturday (except for school holidays and other special days) from *10am-12pm (*may subject to changes)

Some of the students joined this tutoring program as they are unable to afford the expensive private tuition fees. Hence, we hope that you can join our team to assist them as well as to bring joy & smiles to them!

Hi all!~ Due to the clash with the maths GC workshop, we shall postpone our first orientation to a later date after the break from chinese new year. These are the latest update:

1) Date: 16th Feb 2008
2) Time: 0830 for NYJCians and 9am for the kids
3) reporting venue: Hall
4) Attire: Any NYJC Tee shirt with shorts/skirt/pants.

The duration will be from 9am to 12pm

The purpose of this orientation is for the tutors and kids to know one another better, so that lessons would be more engaging and effective. The committee members hope you guys can come down on the actual day as we will be grouping you guys according to your permanant tutees:)

Oh ya, if you guys have any nice cheers, pls share with us, cuz we gonna have cheering competition every now and then.

Orientation schedule

These are the tentative details for the orientation on 2 February 2008.

Time: 8.30am to 12 pm tentative ( Take note of the time change!)
Venue: Outside General Office
Attire: Half-U, House-T, CCA-T, PE-T etc

With a projected 50 tutees and about 25 tutors for us, we will be splitting ourselves into five groups for this orientation. In each group, 5 tutors will take charge of 10-20 tutees. This shall be their permanent study group till March when we will step down. One exco will also be attached to each group to facilitate things.

8.30am to 9.00am. Briefing

Tutors to report outside the office for briefing and to clarify any doubts. You will be informed of your groups and to select an animal as a group name. Tutors are strongly advised to think of some cheers beforehand relating to the theme of animals.

9.00am to 9.30am

The tutors with the help of the excos will be splitting the tutees into their groups and taking attendance.

9.30am to 10am

Ice breaking games will be conducted to introduce each other. Games such as “Toilet Roll”, “Memory Game” and whacko etc will be played within this half hour. A unique cheer for each group will also be practiced.

10am to 11.45am

Mass game sessions. 6 games will be played with each projecting to last about 15 minutes. Explanations of these games will be given on the day itself.

Finally, we hope that through this orientation, we can give the tutees a good start in 2008 to this programme. We will make this orientation as fun as possible!

She informed us that the number of primary school students who wish to sign up for this peer tutoring session has been increasingly tremendously. She also reflected that the rise in the number of students is partly because some of them are unable to afford private tuition, which is expensive. the latest notice:

the peer tutoring session will resume on the coming 2nd Feb and our first session would be an orientation with the new batch of pri 4 kids. We'll be having ice breakers and games.. and its important for all of you to come so that you'll know your tutees better. the orientation will start from 9am-11pm. :D

p.s. if you have any questions regarding the peer tutoring sessions or anything else, do tag on the tagboard and the excos will reply to your doubts asap.
